Environmental Education and Nature Centers

Alley Pond Environmental Center

A non-profit environmental education organization that provides interpretive walks and workshops for the general public and groups. School programs are available.

Blue Heron Nature Center

Staten Island, NY
Programs offered at the Park include Trees at Work, The Ways of the Forest, Wetlands to Woodlands, Bugs and Butterflies, Spring Beauty, and Seeds and Pods are all programs offered at the park. In-school programs on waterways, rainforests and the relationship of Native Americans to nature are available to Staten Island schools.

Clearpool Education Center

Customized curriculum, adventure-based programs, and in-depth workshops on science-based curriculum that takes full advantage of their diverse landscape.

Howe Caverns

These caverns were discovered in 1842 and have been a favorite tourist attraction since 1929. Tours of the caverns last over an hour and include a boat ride on the underground Lake of Venus. A sprawling lodge offers a restaurant, motel, gift shop and snack bar. The drive to Howe Caverns is as scenic as the cave itself, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
