Summer Learning

Art4Now

Summer programs consist of four-six week intensives. Participating students choose from four disciplines such as Dance, Music, Spoken Word and the Visual Arts. Each student must be recommended by a teacher and approved by their parent or guardian.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Children's Garden and Summer Science Adventure Programs

Limited scholarships are available based on need; call the Registration Office at 718-623-7220 for information. Also, if you have participated in BBG's Green Reach Program, your students are eligible for a gardening program, which includes student transport.

Brooklyn Cultural Adventures Program

Kids explore Brooklyn's history, its environment, wildlife, sciences, and the arts in a fun and exciting camp! Each day brings new adventures as kids travel to eight indoor and outdoor cultural sites, rain or shine: Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Children's Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Prospect Park (including Prospect Park Audubon Center and Lefferts Historic House), and Prospect Park Zoo. For children ages 9-12.

Camp AmeriKids

Provide a traditional camping experience for children ages 7-15 who are infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS while providing a respite for their families. The camp is offered at no cost to the families and recruits campers from the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The goals of the program are to develop independence, friendship and self-confidence through the building of new skills and increased abilities.

Fresh Air

Five camps in upstate New York where 3,000 inner-city children enjoy free vacations each summer. The Fresh Air Fund also runs year-round programs to help New York City youngsters. Get parents to sign up for this or additional great programs.

Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

Founded by Paul Newman in 1988, the Camp is a non-profit residential summer camp and year-round center serving children and families coping with cancer and other serious illnesses and conditions. Each summer more than 1,000 children attend free of charge.

Public Library Summer Reading Clubs

Each branch of the Brooklyn, Queens Borough and New York Public Libraries offers a Summer Reading Porgram for students of all ages, and librarians are eager to help families find books. Summer Reading 2005 offers programs in Book Reviews and Author Chats. Web site also includes summer Reading Logs.

Ramapo for Children

Serves children with a range of emotional and learning problems in a natural, outdoor environment. It provides educational and recreational experiences which promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth.
