Speakers

Bee Keepers

Ask a bee keeper to bring an empty hive, show the bee keeper clothing, discuss, safety around bees, and give out samples of honey.

Civic Groups and Church organizations

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Lions Clubs, Kiwanis, Junior Achievement, YMCA, YWCA, League of Women Voters, Habitat for Humanity, etc.
Rotary CLub of NY:

Firefighters

These community helpers will often bring a truck, give a safety talk, and demonstrate how to use a fire hose.

Mail Carriers

In addition to talking to the children, they sometimes allow a look into their trucks or cars. Find a local post office.

New York Council for the Humanities’ Speakers in the Schools

Offers free top-notch lectures on a wide variety of humanities subjects (supporting NYS standards) to high school communities across New York State. Browse the list of lectures and enrich your students’ and colleagues' learning by inviting a renowned speaker into your school. The Council covers all costs associated with the program, including the Speaker’s honorarium and travel expenses, of successful applicants.

Peace Match Program

The National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) connects Peace Corps speakers with classroom teachers looking to enrich country units of study. The Peace Match Program is administered by the NPCA under a cooperative agreement with the Peace Corps. Educators are encouraged to register on the site and search for returned Peace Corps Volunteer speakers.

Police Officers

In addition to giving a talk, they will often bring a car and let children sit in it.
Radio and Television Hosts. These are always favorites with the children. They usually talk about the importance of being able to communicate.
