Initiatives
We are focusing on the following initiatives:
Zero Waste
- Establishing comprehensive school-wide recycling programs in all NYC schools
- Bringing back reusable cafeteria trays and eliminating disposable styrofoam trays
- Composting cafeteria waste
- Prioritizing reduction and reuse whenever possible
Environmental Curriculum
- Connecting students with their local ecology through hands-on, exploratory projects
- Mandating environmental curriculum and outside learning
- Promoting innovative environmental curriculum planning
School Gardening
- Rethinking our school yards as edible space
- Helping students understanding where their food comes from
- Schools growing their own food
- Greening school roofs
- Connecting school gardens with community gardens
Sustainable Energy
- Promoting energy efficiency
- Realizing renewable energy options, such as solar and wind
