About Us
Who are we?
We are New York City school teachers who believe our City schools can take the lead in moving toward a greener future. Our mission is to help design and implement best management practices for greening NYC’s schools. We believe schools must take the lead in reducing our City’s ecological footprint by providing our City’s children and future leaders with an environmental education and exemplary environmental programs, such as school-wide recycling.
What do we want?
- The Dept. of Education to be in compliance with Local Law 19, which mandates our City’s agencies and residents recycle.
- The Dept. of Education to implement their own Chancellor’s regulations on waste management.
- Paid recycling coordinators in every NYC school who are accountable for planning and managing effective school recycling programs.
- NYC schools to divert 80% of solid waste through school recycling programs.
- Elimination of environmentally irresponsible practices, such as the use of Styrofoam trays in our cafeterias.
- Use of environmentally friendly cleaning supplies and 100% recycled content paper products, as stipulated by current laws and regulations.
- More environmental education programs to ensure a greener future.
